Our owners have finally killed off our club.
Apparently we are going to sell two of our brightest prospects Quina and Oxford. Poor buggers must be hard up with all the Christmas shopping.

The academy will never be as successful as it used to be until we can find competitive games for them. Would be nice to add them into League 2 and see how they develop instead of meaningless games against other academy teams

The checkatrade is probably the most competitive games they currently play and they are not exactly running away with it

Very solid display from Quina imo. Didn't look out of place at all among senior players at all. Just needs more minutes.

Actually, if it wasn't for Quina's agent, we wouldn't have got him.

He realised Quina wasn't legally tied to Chelsea, went to Chelsea's training ground and sort him out through his father, within a week we had set his family up in posh digs and got him contracted to us.

His agent is banned from Chelsea's training ground now apparently too.

I think there are a lot of C&B specs on regarding the academy.
We were good at stealing in and pinching other clubs prospects for years before the big money arrived and other clubs could offer more lucrative incentives. The academy died when agents took over the game.
You only have to look at what Quinas agent is allegedly after for a kid who has proven nothing at this level.

He gave quite a few youth products games at Sunderland, including Jordan Pickford's PL debut.

I seem to remember him giving quite a few youth players their debuts for us too.

It's definitely harder than ever to get in and impress enough to keep their place though. You only have to look at the high turnover of players in and out under Bilic, who also gave quite a few youth their debuts, but unfortunately none come close enough to cement a place in the team, not even some senior internationals.

We took him on aged 16. Players who were on a club's books for three years between the ages of 15 and 21 qualify as a youth product.

The Academy was dead a few years ago when BFS got his hands on it, horrible piece of scum and everything there is wrong with football!

Even the likes of Cole, Lampard, Carrick, Ferdinand and other that have followed would have failed to make it in the last 5 Yrs. Its tougher than every for kids to break through with the crave for instant success and dinosaurs like the fat one, Pulis and others like them still in the game.

That's all you need to know about an academy for a club of our level in this day and age and due to agents they get them at a good early age and price too if they've broken into the first team.

No permanent deal for Hammer

West Ham have no intention of making Reece Oxford’s loan deal at Borrusia Monchengladbach permanent!

Stories were circulating a couple of weeks ago that the teenager was set for an £8 million switch to the Bundesliga outfit.

And the speculation has been gaining pace since he broke into the first team, giving a particularly impressive performance against Hamburg on Friday evening.

Reece played in a holding midfield role and showed himself to be a hugely composed operator. He has also appeared to have matured physically and in front of a huge crowd looked entirely at home.

But any thoughts that he could be sold were firmly rejected by a senior club insider who said: “It has taken him a while to break into the team but we now hope he will get exactly the kid of experience we wanted for him.

“We are monitoring his progress very closely and see him as returning to West Ham for pre-season next summer.”


Quina reports are wide of the mark

Reports that Liverpool is leading the race to sign Domingos Quina from West Ham are wide of the mark according to a club insider.

The 18-year-old joined the Hammers from Chelsea‘s academy on a free transfer last year and has made four senior appearances including two in the Carabao Cup this season.

The Daily Mail claimed that West Ham is ready to listen to offers for the midfielder in the January transfer window and that Liverpool lead the charge to sign Quina next month and have ‘concrete interest’ in the Portugal Under-20 international.

The club has yet to tie the player down to a new four-year contract as his representatives demand a £25,000 per week deal. His current contract runs until the summer of 2019 so the club has time on its hands to persuade him to commit his long-term future to the Irons.

Should he refuse to sign a new contract by next summer they may consider cashing in with 12 months remaining for a valuation around £8 million. A January exit appears unlikely unless he puts in a transfer request.

If you bother to read what I wrote there I already answered your point. For me we should consider the academy the time between youth prospect and regular senior football, because that's the key journey of any young player and the bit we really care about.

Lots of our famous young players joined the academy at various ages, Carrick from Newcastle, Joe Cole spent two years at Lilleshall. There's just no hard and fast rule where you become a 'legitimate' youth player at the club. There's no need for nit-picking.

Charlton said they produced him. The FA said we didn't produce him to the tune of £1.4 million. West Ham didn't appeal the verdict so presumably agreed.

I say they did. It depends what you describe as the academy. For me the key part of it is guiding players from the youth team up into the first team. If they don't make it through that process they don't ever graduate. Defoe played his early football with the youth team. I think it's silly to describe it any other way - he graduated from our academy.
